La mar

global identity

Pepe Carpena invited Pocho and me to work with the Acurio Group on a project for his Cevicheria La Mar. We started by taking photos of the new dishes with chef Anthony Vazquez, who just arrived from Buenos Aires. But soon, we were documenting the entire book publication with Patricia Ku King and the Argentine publishing house Catapulta.

mise en place

To make our famous ceviche stand out, we needed a unique visual idea. The deep, rich blues of the Peruvian sea became the perfect backdrop to show how fresh and colorful each species or dishes were.

cuts and slices

We aimed to create a lively and exciting atmosphere at La Mar by using an editorial tone. We celebrated the restaurant’s vibrant spirit, featuring parties and drinks too, and the lively marine scene that makes it so unique. We designed a visual style that captured that energy, inspiring many fans of Gastón Acurio’s culinary creations.

Pepe Carpena’s biggest deal was a tiny shawl designed to show the last big orgy of seafood from the Pacific Sea. We carefully arranged our marine mise en place with Anthony on the dark blue background, taking an overhead shot that captured it and ended up on the back cover of the final book.
